Photos for college magazine.

 

7) This photo was supposed to look casual and un-posed. I quite like it as just a snapshot of college life however I might be less inclined to use it as the only way it would have an effect is as the main image dominating the front cover. To fill the entire front page the photo would need to be portrait, this one was taken landscape.

8) I like this photo as it looks quite casual yet it shows students studying which is the main purpose of a college. I would like to use this one.

9) The inspiration for this photo was the famous image of the Beatles. I wanted to try to make the college look fun and cultural. I like this picture and would probably use it because it looks fun.

10) This photo is good because it shows the work of the fashion students and the books students can use to study from in the library.

11) I like this one because it shows some lovely work of the art students however it does look a bit random that a student it just touching. I wanted it to look like she was adding some final touches but  it didn't really come out that way I don't think so I probably won't be using it.

12) This photo is supposed to look like a student adding some final touches to her fashion work. I like this photo but not for a main image so I will probably use it for a small picture on the contents page.

13) I wanted a casual photo of some students going up the stairs however as this one only shows their backs I might be less inclined to use it. One of my ideas for the contents page was to have people going up the stairs one one side, down the stairs on the other and have the writing in the middle.

Ideas for College Magazine Photos.

I will take 4 photos to include in my college magazine. I will only be creating a front cover and a contents page.

The main image on the front cover will be a medium shot of a college student. I think I will probably put 2 photos on the front cover to entice the reader and 2 on the contents page to show some exciting articles. I think that I would maybe like to have more than one student in the main image if I can, probably outside main reception to show the college. Or under the college logo sign to promote the college.

I would take an interesting article from the contents page and make a picture to go with it so show off what customers can read in the magazine.

On the front cover I would like 1 main image and 1 little one, then on the contents page I would probably have 2 medium sized pictures with writing around them. 

If my main feature for the magazine was music or fashion for example then my main image would somehow incorporate that theme.

More women than men completed my survey, so the results are slightly distorted and favour the women's views more. Perhaps if I were to do this in the real world then I would create two separate magazines, one for women's interests and one for men's.

More 16-18 year olds completed my survey which is good because the general age of people reading the magazine would be teenagers straight out of school.

The rankings of what genre of magazine is mainly read are as follows: 1st-music, 2nd-fashion, 3rd-film & gaming, 4th-sport, 5th-information & diet, 6th-puzzles, adult & other, 7th-cars & weddings.

Most people answered that they would 'maybe' read a college magazine, but out of 'yes' and 'no' the 'yes's won.

57.9% of people who took the survey wanted the magazine to contain key information only, whereas 42.1% people wanted as much information as possible in the magazine.

Most people wanted the magazine to cost below £1, or at most £1.50.

I wanted to know when people would most like the magazine to be issued, and the results concluded that the top answer was once a month.

For the question, 'What would you like it to contain? (mark all that apply)' the answers were (in order of most picked to least picked): term information, fun things to do in the area, course information & revision help, agony aunt page, college fashion, experiences of other students and finally facilities.

For the question regarding concerns about college, the serious answers I got were: exams, transport, money, revising, none, coursework, bike, the future, teachers, cost of equipment and failing. I could use theses results to choose what information I should include in my college magazine.

Doing this survey over the Internet was very beneficial as it was not only quick and simple to create and send out but also it was fast and easy for people to fill out and send back. On the street it would have taken a lot longer, also the range of participants would not have been as broad as online. In the street also people might not have wanted to stop and talk to me and the weather may have been a problem.
